The Shore Path Cottage, a lovely, graciously aged house serving as a charming downeast Bed & Breakfast, is on the ocean and just a short walk into town via the famous Shore Path. Family owned and operated for 30 years by the Chester family, the painting of Shore Path Cottage at the top of this page is lovingly rendered by artist Kate Chester. She and her siblings grew up in the oceanfront cottage, and the rooms are named for them.
From your window you can look across our wide lawn, past a field of wild flowers, and through the trees to Frenchman's Bay and the spectacular Porcupine Islands.

The Shore Path Cottage
She sits among the pines and elms,
Majestic in her stance.
The ocean to the east of her,
Beyond the lawn's expanse.
Her rooms within are bright and warm,
A traveler's beacon clear.
A bed awaits for those who roam,
There's rest and comfort here.
Inspired by her owner's mien,
She offers pause and peace.
A good night's sleep and breakfast full,
Then on with life's caprice.

Kayakers in front of one of the Porcupine Islands in the harbor
The Shore Path Cottage is featured in The Maine Explorer's Guide, your "bible"
if Maine is your destination. The cottage, the word used to describe the large
homes in Maine and typical of downeast Maine understatement, is a beautiful example
of Maine Coast architecture. Situated on the ocean, at the end of a quiet, tree-
lined street and just minutes from town by foot, has a highly desirable location
which allows you to park your car in the circular driveway and forget about battling
the summer traffic and still enjoy all that Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park
have to offer.
"This place is enchanting."

Owning a Bed and Breakfast is like having a child in perpetuity; to my guests who ask when and how and if I ever get away, I have often remarked (only half in jest) that the B & B and I are connected by umbilical cord from the house to the end of the driveway; actually, though, the connection is impervious to geographical distance. The rain in Maine falls mainly other places (but of course) than Bar Harbor, but when it does, my guests enjoy different activities than climbing on slippery rocks in Acadia National Park, biking the carriage roads, or going to sea in a kayak. Those include area sight seeing car trips, the local museums, art galleries, craft shops, and antique stores that might not appeal to their children, especially those who are too old to fall asleep in the back seat. Hearts and Flowers at Shore Path Cottage When my grandchildren and I have been nibbling on too many gingerbread cookies, my guests have to make do with squares of Ghirardelli chocolates. Although I sometimes find the chocolates left behind, the cookies disappear without a trace. Read more ...
