By day, Mt. Desert Island with its proximity to the incredible world-famous Acadia National Park, offers a range of activities for every age and inclination that includes hiking the trails, biking, boating, golfing, swimming at Sand Beach or at the many lakes, whale watching, deep sea fishing, and kayaking. Sail with a naturalist to an outlying island for a walking tour of flora, fauna and some fascinating history, meet with a park

ranger for an astronomical look at the night sky, or awake before the crack of dawn, and from the pink granite of Cadillac Mountain be the first in the U.S. to watch the sunrise.

You may choose to experience Mt. Desert Island by car (or from the window of the park's convenient, and ecologically mindful, shuttle busses) on the 19 mile loop road. Either way, you will want to stop and take photos beside a legend or a scenic overlook. From any perspective on land or sea, the majesty and the intimacy of this park will inspire you to stand in awe, as well as to enter into it.

Bar Harbor, as well as the other towns on and near the island, has excellent restaurants, shops, concerts, museums and interesting seasonal events, such as music, art and film festivals. Mt. Desert Island and the area referred to as "Downeast" – where the trees outnumber the people and the night sky is brighter with stars than city lights – has become famous for its clean air, clean water and its natural beauty. It has been preserved and protected by all those who have treasured this area for generations, both those who make their home here, and those who return year after year.

We look forward to sharing with you the exquisite pleasure of being here.
